Cabin & shed maintenance, repairs

Hortons log cabin repair service carries out all garden building services and repairs

All garden buildings (whether a log cabin or shed) need ongoing repairs and maintenance. Even if just the odd repair carrying out over the years. If kept under control then this can easily double the life of your garden cabin or shed. We offer this service for any timber garden building -

Hortons are able to carry out this type of work. Our teams are experts in all types of garden buildings and because we supply and install them all of the time, and we hold stock of many of the items that are required.

We know how to carry out the work in the most efficient manner. Therefore we don't need to guess like a general handyman may have to do and go about it in a long winded way.

One stop shop for log cabin repairs

The more common operations for our log cabin and shed repairs & maintenance service are -

  • Adjusting windows and doors
  • Re-felting / re-roofing (we stock and sell felt roll and felt shingles)
  • Flat roof repairs - we only recover the whole roof with EPDM rubber roofing (we do not repair hot felt / 2 layer bonded felt roofs). We sell EDPM roofing and accessories (uPVC trims etc).
  • Repairing / replacing roof boards following on from a leaky roof - we stock various timber sections and cladding boards.
  • Replacing rotten fascia boards - we can even replace these with uPVC for a maintenance free life thereafter (we hold these in stock).
  • Re-levelling a building and adding bracing to keep true and straight.
  • Replacing windows or doors (we sell various standard sizes, but we can also supply custom sizes).
  • Hinge replacements (for rusted or seized hinges) - we hold various hinges in stock.
  • Replacing or adding new locks to doors - we hold various locks in stock.
  • Realigning guttering / repairing guttering.
  • Log cabins - In some cases, repairing / replacing rotten logs (can be a very complicated process as the logs are interlocked at the corners) - we hold different log sections in stock.
  • Sheds and garden workshops - Replacing cladding (quite often around the bottom where boards have gone rotten due to rain splash-back - we hold various types of cladding in stock.
  • Floor repairs (usually from rising damp as a result of a lack of dampproof course) - some cases it is possible to retrofit a dmp course to protect it in the future (we hold damp proof membrane in stock).

Garden building upgrades and improvements

There many other cabin repairs that we can also carry out to your garden rooms and workshops.......We can also make upgrades to your garden buildings -

  • Insulate roofs (we hold Kingspan and fibreglass loft roll insulation in stock).
  • Insulate walls.
  • Insulate floor.
  • Replacing a felt roof with EPDM rubber roof.
  • Upgrading windows / doors.
  • Add trickle vents to windows or doors for added ventilation and thereby stopping the room getting damp and/or mouldy.
  • Adding new extra windows or doors into new locations within your building.
  • Add guttering with water butts if required.

We have also developed a methed to replace bottom logs in log cabins (not as easy as it sounds!). Log cabins are built from the ground up, overlapping the wall logs at the corners as it progresses. Therefore it is not possible to just simply take a log out without damaging the adjacent logs that it interlocks with at each end. We have specialist equipment that allows us to lift the whole cabin up in order to take the rotten logs out (usually the bottom logs) and replace them with new ones - no other company offers this....

First steps to find out what repairs are required

If you would like to discuss what your requirements are, then please use the pre-formed questionnare at the bottom of the page on our sister website.

We can usually give a ballpark figure from your initial contact. And then be more exact once you have sent us some photos and answered a few more questions that we may have. If you request a call out to inspect your building, then we do charge a call out fee for this. We will always try to tie in when we are in your area in order to keep this as little as possible.

However, although we are experts in log cabin and shed repairs & maintenance service, there are certain circumstances where it is almost impossible to give an exact figure to start with. If there has been a roof leak or if the floor is rotten, then until you start to dismantle the element in question, you don't know how far the damage has gone. In this case we can only give a call out fee (to cover travelling costs) plus an hourly rate and estimated material costs. We will always try to give a price range that it is likely to cost, but this cannot be guaranteed of course.

Honest service

We will always be honest with you and declare if we think the building is beyond repair or not cost effective to repair (but will always carry out the work if requested to do so). There are cases where it is worth dismantling the building in order to lay a replacement base (there are many building just built on bricks dotted around and unlevel), and then re-build it again. On the other hand, it may not be worth re-felting a roof if the timber roof structure supporting it is rotten and would cost more than the shed is worth.

Please note - we do not repair buildings that contain asbestos.
